Citric acid (C6H8O7 ) is a white crystalline powder without odor. It is an industrial chemical, used for removal of soluble calcium from the mud. Purpose and use Citric acid is used in drilling of gas and oil wells for neutralization of cement in the mud. The acid removes calcium ions from drilling mud. It is an industrial chemical, used for reduction of hydrogen level (СЂРќ) in drilling mud and has anticorrosion properties. It reduces risk of mixing of polymers (xanthan gum etc.) upon interaction with equipment alloy, preventing breaking of the grids of highly-molecular polymers upon their mixing.
